Latter Rain/A Good Crop

Another day in the fields -
            just like the last.
I search for the promised growth,
the soil rich with my hopes,
though I feel only dirt between my fingers.
Again I pray for latter rain.

Suddenly, unlike the days stretching
   endlessly before -

            It comes.

My heart is drenched along with
   the thirsty ground,
doubts silenced by the confidence of the storm.

The rain echoes my prayer,
   and His call to me:
            Let patience grow roots.
